1. We are new to Trabant Forums, so hello all. It is great to see that there is a place for Trabi owners to come together, share their experiences and their know how.

There is three of us an engineer, a doctor and a quantity surveying student, we are friends from Dublin, Ireland. Last summer we flew to journey to buy a Trabant with the sole purpose of using it in the Mongol Rally. We found our beautiful car Uwe just outside of Erfurt and set about driving it to England. It was not without a few hiccups - needing to change the spark plugs, running out of petrol on an Autobahn. Uwe is a 1990 Trabant 601 Kombi.

So our next step is to get our car ready for the 2017 Mongol Rally! The Mongol Rally is a 10,000 mile journey from London to Ulanbaatar in Mongolia. Our route is going to take us along coasts, over mountain ranges and through deserts. It is all done in aid of charity and in the spirit of adventure. So it is all for a good cause, our charity partners are Mind UK, Cool Earth and Epilepsy Ireland. We are now searching for sponsorship and are trying to find spare parts and a roof rack.

You can find out all about our Mongol Rally plans here - http://www.theddrdevils.com/ or on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/theddrdevils/

If anyone has any experience with long distance driving in their Trabant we would love to hear about it.

  4. It looks like we will be going a slightly different route, but we will be passing through Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia. We don't intend to go that far west in Kazakhstan as we'll be doing the Pamir Highway we will enter in the South East through Kyrgyzstan. They do seem to have had an amazing trip and seen some amazing sights. Hopefully we will too :D
