Got to get under this thing somehow to clean off the undercoating and I don't have a lift so......

It's not that heavy and it is a lot more solid then it looks! :)

I have pins bolted through the 4x4 wood with heavy washers on the outside so unless the side rocker peels off I am safe. I can't manually rock the car if I try.

Maybe it is a Kippeinrichtung as my German is not the best and Google Translate defines Kippeinrichtung = dumping device. That just might happen if I am not carefull!

    Makes me nervous. :D

I'd have connected the feet of the tall end to the blocks on the opposite side so the rocker can't bend and allow the tall part to slide outward.

And also triangulate the tall part instead of the horizontal tie.

You need more angle on your setup so you can work easily. That device you speak of is when the car is in full piece. It looks scary, but you can go without it. Just need a spare tire, apply the handbrake and turn the trabi over carefully on one side.
Just put the spare tire up, where the door and window pillar meets the roof - strogest place. If you have a bare body shell, just put some old tyres where the body meets the ground too.

That looks like a good way to try! Your work on the undercarriage looks really good!

My German friend told me that this is a common way that they worked on the Trabi. I really need to start removing the glass anyways so I should probably do that first to avoid any possible breakage.

I was kind of half joking about my set-up being scary though. The 4x4's are bolted through the sills on the car and can't slide out and are probably strong enough to support a full size truck with its motor and transmission still attached.
When I am moving the Trabi shell around I have it on rolling furniture dollies and my son and I lift the whole car to place it on them without breaking a sweat! Now if the engine and transmission, etc. were still attached that would be a different story! :)
