I have given up, I wanted a Trabant for thirty years and finally got one from Hungary this year, but I cannot get any garage to touch it and I have had a continual problem with loss of spark since I bought it. I have replaced the EBZA unit, the Towing Arm and the circuit board near the crank which cured it, it ran lovely for thirty or forty miles and then the spark went again ! This car is crying out to be converted to points system which is what I would do IF I had the money left to do it ! It has a long MOT and when running runs really nicely with good brakes, steering, interior, exterior etc. It owes me over £1500 I am asking £600 as a non runner. Any interest please contact me through PM here. Thanks. David

I can totally sympathize with you. I once bought an 84 Dodge pickup sight unseen the ad claimed it ran and drove . . . the seller even offered to drive it to my house. Well they came to my door and said the truck was around the corner, they just didn't want try driving it up my steep driveway (not that bad, really) and I still didn't smell a rat. Well after they're paid and gone, come to drive the truck and it runs ok for about two miles and shuts off. EVERY TIME. It's one of those early computer box engine controller things so there's no OBD and not much to tinker with. So I took it to a garage within its operational range that advertised themselves as being diagnostic specialists. They kept it a day or two and called me to come get it. They hand me a bill for diagnosis with a surcharge tacked on because it leaked some oil on their precious floor (!) and then he says well, it could be a sensor or the computer itself, WE DON'T KNOW. And they still want me to pay the bill. I ended up donating it to charity.

It sounds as if you and I have both become victims of peoples dishonesty and greed. I waited thirty years to get a Trabant and now this. I cannot even find a garage that will allow it on their forecourt let alone look at it. All I can do is keep ordering NEW parts from German suppliers who eventually send them. I don't know why it keeps doing it and cannot continue to buy parts EVERY thirty miles.

NOT FOR SALE - After sleeping on it I am going to try and convert to points IF I can source the parts required. I waited 30 years to get one I am not giving up !

I think you need to find someone to actually look at it before you buy more and more parts. Just my opinion.

If only it was that easy, NO ONE will even look at it here and to be honest I have run out of money. I have got the points set up coming now so hopefully it will run and more importantly KEEP running. The thing is the car runs really well WHEN it runs, starting first time and pulling nicely. I am wondering if the coils fitted are the wrong ones for the EBZA system. They are the ones it came with though.
