Is Papyrus close to a Beige colour or closer to a light grey (grey'ish white)? Every picture or video i look at, the colour looks different. Thanks Andy.
Thank you. Many of the pictures and videos i look at it does seem a beige type of colour. In others they look like a very light colour. I know i can get the correct colour shipped from Germany, but i don't fancy litre's paint going so far through the postal system. I'm not after a perfect match, just some thing fairly close. Andy.
I took my car to my local paint supplier to get some paint for touching up and found a spot on match which is a fiat colour it was called grey but they said it's not grey it's beige and agreed with me that it's hearing aid beige I'm away at the moment laying round a pool in feuraventura when I get back ill see if there's a code on the tin it may be of use to you it was £12 for 1/2 litre
Hearing aid beige. Hehehe. Next time i see my mother i will pull her hearing aid out and compare it to various picture. Yes a code would be great. Never thought a flat colour would be a close match. Thanks Andy.
If kev the builder can't get a code then i might buy 1 rattle can to get the correct colour or end up buying 3 or 4 litres from the German ebay seller.
If you do @kev the builder He'll probably get an email notification for maximum effect. (assuming it works for names with spaces is them)
I hate to be late for the party and all. I'm not all that crazy about this color. I always referred to it as "dirty white". But that was the color mine was so it is what it is. I had a local paint store aim their "gun" at the hood/bonnet and they matched it up perfectly. I couldn't find a color code anywhere on the car. I told them this was just touch up paint I was going to apply it with a foam brush in the engine compartment and trunk. So they mixed some some acrylic enamel. It was still high at $50 a liter and I didn't even buy any hardener to go with it. Someone did some welding on the shock towers and went crazy with flat black paint and some something I call "red stuff". So far I haven't found anything that will remove it. I've tried lacquer thinner (cellulose) and acetone. I've either had to scrap it off or paint over it. Bottom right hand corner are the before and after: http://s222.photobucket.com/user/turbofiat/library/Trabant?sort=6&page=1 It matched so well I used it to touch up the gouge marks in the Duraplast and the bumpers. Just to get me by until I found the time to repaint it. But that's been 4 years ago! You can get somewhat of an idea of how it matched: http://s222.photobucket.com/user/turbofiat/library/Trabant?sort=6&page=8 Speaking of which. Our plant just runs about half the time so in between if we don't have anything to package we paint doors, handrails, I-beams, ladders, etc. The paint we use is this industrial grade urethane enamel. The paint is mixed at a 4:1 ratio. If you don't put hardener in it, it won't dry. It stays tacky. But if properly mixed dries rock hard, glossy and slick. I think because it takes a while for this stuff to dry and cure, it gives the paint time to lay down. Some of my co-workers hate painting but I actually like to paint. If I wasn't doing it here, I would be doing it at home! I don't particularly like getting paint all over my clothing and this paint we use is so volatile, it will make you high as a kite! Especially when thinned down with MEK. MEK is supposed to be used to clean brushes but it works just as well as a thinner. I got to thinking, wonder how this would turn out if I shot it using a paint gun? I'm planning on shooting an old Yugo bonnet/hood with this stuff and see how it turns out. I thought there was a can of white paint in the cabinet but it's gone. Someone must have used it or I misread the label. I wondered if I could mix a bit of gray with it and come close. I got a few colors to choose from. Bright blue Fire engine red Taxi cab yellow Bright green Light gray Battleship gray Dark Chocolate brown I thought about going with Battleship Gray. Actually the light gray comes close to what's on the car now. I'd have to repaint the engine compartment. I haven't done the trunk or door jambs yet. https://www.ppgpaints.com/products/pitthane-ultra-gloss-urethane-enamels
My car is blue so i had nothing to match the paint to. I plan to paint it next year and put on the factory style rally decals that i already have. I will get a rattle can made up on friday with the colour that Kev the builder as found. I will then spray some scrap metal and see how it looks. If all is fine then next summer i will get a few litres made up, ready for my spray gun. I still have a few more welding jobs to do this year, so paint will have to wait. Andy.
