After my car sits in the garage for a little while, the first time I open the door there is a profound smell of formaldehyde. I did some research and I found out that formaldehyde is one of the ingredients in Duroplast, which is what the body panels are made out of. Does everyone else's car smell like formaldehyde too?

Yes, it's part of their charm.

Russian vehicles have a distinct odour, too. Slightly different to the DDR ones, but far preferable to the bland, air-freshener smell of Western vehicles.

    Best wishes, Colin

    I love the smell.

The formaldehyde is what keeps the rats from eating the Duraplast body panels. (Maybe that is just an urban myth, but sounds like it could be true)

i always toss a fridge pack of baking soda under a seat when in storage. get the vent box. It is part of the charm and to me what makes the car great

I wouldn't change a thing about it. I don't mind the smell at all. It's part of the adventure
