Of course i like Terry Pratchett. Now as you mention it, i need to order the books. Should read them again.
Of course i took you serious - lots of people ask me wether i'm a communist because of my car. Especially when they find out that i was born in the former GDR. I always tell them that i also own a BMW 3 series. Does this makes me a turk? (it's a clichee here that turks drive BMW 3 series). I cann't hide that i'm more a left winger than a right winger, but it doesn't has anything to do with my birhtplace, because i was born there in 1987, and my parents moved in the west of germany in 1996, what means that i've not been socialized in the GDR. It's just a twist of fate that i like the Trabant.
I'm especially no communist because a totalitarian state stays a totalitarian state. And for me it doesn't matters which ideology is the favorized. It steals freedom. And often enough it steals also lifes. Therefore i'm pretty happy to live in a (more or less malfunctioning) Democracy.

Hi IFA
As a heavily exploited worker who has become "class-consceince", I appreciate the great truths contained in the Manifesto and other works.
From what I understand:
the basic idea of Communism is that if we share and co-operate with one another, we can improve life for everyone.
the basic idea of Capitalism is that we can make money from the work of other people.
Yes, I'm guilty of sharing!*
"totalitarian states" come about for a variety of reasons and the ideological opposite of "Communism", Fascism is actually worse.
Many people think that what the DDR and other socialist states developed into was a kind of state-run capitalism, rather than the intended socialism.
So, onwards I study.
* not in the criminal sense of sharing other people's property, just sharing my meager resources.

A great book: We at Porsche by Dr. Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche. Its an autobiography that follows the early years of Ferdinand Senior working for Audi (well, they eventually became Audi) all the way up to the late 80's. Anyone that's a fan of Porsche, design, motorsports, or cars in general will enjoy this book.
