Today we were at a "old stuff exhibition" but due to bad weather not many people there.
then we took the 45 km to drop off the stuff for the LEGO exhibition next weekend. most of the way up there we took the highway with a steady 90 - 100 km/h (first time on highway in 13 years for this car) , and on the way home we took the backroads where it held about 80 km/h. When we adjusted the engine yesterday, we must have hit it absolutely dead on, as it drives fine, but idles a bit rough, and managed 15 km/l. I also think it helped it a bit with 20 minutes with 100 km/h, to clean the system.

This is probably the closest you will find:
http://ddrdeluxe.blogspot.dk/2011/07/lego-trabant.html
I have considered building one based on this mini:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=488596
It is remote controlled and has a four speed secuential gearbox, so it is just a matter of making a body, and fit the chassis of this inside.

Anything built by Sheepo is going to be good. I see his Land Rover was accepted after a successful Cuusoo (did I spell that right?) campaign.
There was a Trabant mentioned on the Lego Car Blog a while ago, but the proportions around the front aren't very accurate.

Stuff that did not go to plan:
Stuff that still needs to be done:
Engine could use a overhaul, but i cant finance it right now, but i found a truck workshop today where i can finish my education, wich means i have a job for the next four years.
Total cost of this project including car, tax, spares and paint:
16000 danish kroner
2897 us dollars
2145 euro
and a lot of time.
Overall a fun project, and i have a cheap "new" car for a few years into the future.

Stuff that did not go to plan:
- Get the car on jack stands (tipped down on first try, none got hurt)
- disassembly of rear suspension (broke the two bolts that holds the bracket for the shock absorber. about 2 threads visible)
- Painting (repainted both rear fenders and left front fender)
- getting wiring back in (not easy to get that working again)
- getting passenger side door watertight (hopefully works now, but there have been no rain)
- starting engine (ignition cables wrong way around, as usual)
- first drive (left rear wheel did not drop in to place when bolts where tightened, but did when driving, therefor each nut nedeed 4 turns before tightness)
- Getting wipers to work properbly (someone a long time ago used some wire instead of the clips that holds the rods together, therefore disassembling itself when used
Stuff that still needs to be done:
- fixing wiper system (need a plastic bush on one of the rods. my uncle will try to make one)
- Fixing stoplight for trailer plug (probably loose connection, and because of cold weather i have been to lazy to fix it. i am not going to tow a trailer in the near future, so it is not a urgent need)
- A good polish (dont want to do it too early because i want to make sure the paint is fully hardened, and need the time and weather)
Engine could use a overhaul, but i cant finance it right now, but i found a truck workshop today where i can finish my education, wich means i have a job for the next four years.
