Yes. The little one on the right here:

There should also be the long one inside the fuel tank but it doesn't filter down as a small.

No, it acts like a higher bottom for the tank. So when the fuel goes below it- then you need the reserve..

Most 2 cycle mopeds, and older motorcycles have the same system. You could always leave it off, and be running on the full tank all the time. Which is fine, as long as you know how much fuel you have.....

Also, here is a link to some factory exploded drawings. http://www.trabant-original.de/otdbx/TDokumente_view.php

Yes your car did have head gaskets when new.

Well, it could be the float is cracked{it isn't cork right?, I've never worked on the older trabis}, mis-adjusted, and or the needle valve is jammed / full of junk. Try putting the float in a cup of liquid (with a light weight on top) for a few hours. With it assembled, try to gently blow into the fuel inlet(hopefully with a clean hose!). When you flip the carb upside down, no air should pass.

If it lets air by, then she is worn out, or that valve is dirty & squirreled.. This applies to any carb ever made. grinning smiley
