Thanks for the pics. I considered fabricating a new package tray (just so I didn't cut up the original one) and mounting some 6" oval speakers back there but I'd really like to keep this car as original as possible. At least with the 4" speakers mounted below the fuel tank, they will be out of sight out of mind.

Concerning the gear oil. I could not find HLP68 anywhere. However NAPA autoparts said they sold it but were completely out of it. It seems to be a common oil found in tractors. However they said that SAE30 motor oil was the same thing according to their lubrication cross reference book. So I've been running that for several months even below freezing with no issues. Also the White Shepherd stop leak as been working for the transmission seal.

My speakers have an M5 threaded hole in their bottom side. So just a 6mm hole in the parcel shelf is needed to hold them with a small bolt. I like this arrangement, very little invasive and nice looking smiling smiley

About gearbox oil I preferred to get the right one from Germany. It is not that expensive.

Tomorrow I borrow a special number plate from my previous boss (Citroen garage) so I will have my first real drive experience with my Trabi grinning smiley

It may be the light but the carb does not look new. Is it a reconditioned one ? Why would they remove the part number ?

Yes, the carb is a reconditioned one, it comes from TrabantWelt Really I cannot figure why they erased the number

I fitted the last new part to my Trabi:

Now it is fully mechanically sound. I will give it a bit of rust inhibitor in few spots (mainly in the engine bay), and that's all.
In September I will get the Italian plates and start driving it smiling smiley

That is a nice and pretty new master cylinder. Who did you order it from?

Yes, it's nice and, as stated in the description, new item, no Magyar production.
Got it from ebay.de: http://www.ebay.it/itm/121140978838?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

The old one used to loose a bit of pressure in prolonged braking actions (long downhill), and as Trabi will mainly be my wife's daily driving, I don't want to take any risk with brakes smiling smiley

I ordered a rebuild kit for mine, but after @Keri's post I am a bit concerned about rebuilding mine. I feel knowledgeable and able to do most things, but I don't want to inadvertently mess my brake system up. I may end up just going with a new one.

In my experience rebuilding a master cylinder usually is not worth the effort, as it is likely to have the inner metal bore somewhat corroded so new seals can just do nothing really good winking smiley

I have a small cylinder hone made for wheel and master cylinders so I'm not worried about that part, but for the price it still just might be easier.

To be honest. The primary reason for considering rebuilding is getting everything from EU is so expensive shipping wise. Although I plan on being in Hungary in March so if I can hold out until then I will pick one up while I'm in Budapest.

I do have rebuild kit for the master cylinder that I had my brother grab it while he was over there, but haven't attempted it yet.

I probably should also check to make sure there isn't just air in the lines. My brakes work well and are firm, but when I'm sitting with them held at a light or something they slowly sink to the floor.

The same I had. The new master cylinder solved the issue.

Replaced the OE steering wheel with the sport-look one:

I like it.
The other had a too thin gripping surface for my big hands :p
