I'm willing to bet this is the first time ever that a Trabi have been parked in the outer courtyard of the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Working for the Royal Court has it's perks...

Parking a fine socialist car in front of a Royal Palace! grinning smiley

Here's my stab at offending the Bourgeois by taking advantage of my employers....

A good introduction to this foto goes kinda like this:

This.... is a $350,000 Lexus LFA Luxury Supercar made of the finest materials by fanatical Japanese Engineers who spared no expense in its production....
and
THAT.... is what happens when you leave it unattended for 5 minutes! Some commie parks her crummy cardboard car next to it and puts the pictures on the Internet!

If it's mechanically possible, BOTH cars were insulted by each other's presence! The Trabi was sputtering "Hey Boooshwah" with a cold motor while the LFA was just looking all haughty and hoity-toity.

With money as no object, I'd still take the Trabi...

Justin, Thanks! Stockholm is a beatiful city, albeit a bit lacking in IFA-vehicles (I think I'm the only Trabi-owner in town, actually!).

In reply to a post by Keri Parking a fine socialist car in front of a Royal Palace! grinning smiley
The irony is not lost on me... grinning smiley

And as for your picture: between those two cars, your Trabi is without a doubt the coolest and best-looking vehicle.
If given a choice between the two vehicles, the only reason I would pick the Lexus is so that I could sell it and buy more Trabis (or perhaps a Barkas...). winking smiley

I give you a Trabant driven by a Carolinean soldier of the early 18th century. What if King Karl XII had a ride like this at Poltava...?!

Incidentally, this is also the first image of myself I post at this forum.

OK, Boys and Girls!

Let's play "Spot The Commie'! yawning smiley

Somewhere in this picture is an alleged COMMUNIST and her awful Anti-Corporate mechanical Comrade.

They are obviously in the midst of a Dastardly Plot to collectivize Wisconsin Dells!

So, it is your Corporate, Oops! I meant Patriotic Duty to Find Them! Stop Them! CCCCCCRUSH THEM! Call out the Blue Meanies and o-BLUE-terate Them!

A King in a Trabi? Wouldn't that revoke his Kingship immediately and promote His Royal Highness to "Comrade"?

Comrade King! Ruler of a nation where everyone is equal, except that Comrade King is a bit more equal than the rest. winking smiley

Let's play "Spot The World-Famous Historical Monument"!

Just supposing, hypothetically speaking, that maybe someone you know might, possibly, have knowledge of a certain slightly left-of-center political party... or two.
And this same, anonymous somebody knows some history, particularly that of the labor movement and some other stuff that might rhyme with "Park Schism" or maybe "An Ark Schism"...

And, just supposing that this same anonymous someone happens to live mere kilometers from the site of an epic, world-changing event that occurred a little while ago.
A site so important that a major city had an appropriate monument constructed upon the very spot that the events took place just over sixscore years ago.

And, let's just say that this very same person happens to be a dutiful Trabi Comrade.
Obviously, it would be a moral obligation to suggest to her Mechanical Comrade to stop by this Sacred Plot for a visit, especially since East Berlin seemed to have taken quite an interest in this event.

Here's what it looks like....

What is it?
What happened there?
Why would East Berlin take an interest?
Why might it be a sacred pilgrimage for Trabants and some of the more troublesome Human Comrades?

Clue:

This memorial is in Chicago (Чикаго) , on Desplaines Street near Lake Street.

Clue:

The events took place in 1886.

Clue:

The Capitalist system and government in the USA successfully covered up this vital chapter of history and most Americans, including most Chicagoans, know nothing of it.

Clue:

Our Soviet comrades took great interest in this event and as a consequence of this interest, much of the memorabilia and historical record ended up preserved and honored in East Berlin, within earshot (and noseshot) of glorious Trabi Traffic.

Удачи!

Товарищи! grinning smiley

It's the Haymarket Memorial!

It commemorates the Haymarket "riot" on the 4th of May, 1886.

It was actually the Haymarket square rally with people speaking out for 8-hour workdays and against police brutality, which had been previously directed against the 8-hour movement.

The rally itself was peaceful until an army of Chicago policemen arrived to "break it up"*.
A bomb ended up being tossed into the mass of police, killing one and injuring many others.
As the rally was called by anarchists, this might be the origin of the phrase "Bomb-Throwing Anarchist".

The ensuing battle, "legal" proceedings and hangings were at first a blow to the labor movement but ultimately strengthened us and contributed to the 8-hour workday and 5-day workweek.

I am a Trade Unionist myself, so this is part of our history. Too few of my fellow workers know our history.
The Soviets were all for working people, or at least originally were.
It makes sense to me, knowing a little of their philosophy, that they would take an interest. The more cynical amongst us would claim it was only for propaganda purposes.

Here's the wiki, but the pictures are out of date.

As Socialists, Communists and Anarchists generally support Organized Labor, a Trabant can have no better parking spot on this continent! yawning smiley

Stuff we take for granted 120 + years later was fought for bitterly by those before us.
Don't give it up easily or at all.

Wear Red!
Wear Black!

* Chicago Police are famous for their ability to "Break Things Up". With the emphasis on "BREAK"
