It was from a link that Trabant601 posted:

Just assuming from this website he is a Stasi officer.
I sure did post that interesting post. I don't claim any accuracy or inaccuracy in it. It sure does that look like the source thinks it is a STASI agent.http://www.chronik-der-mauer.de/index.php/de/Media/ImagePopup/field/original/id/42443/oldAction/Index/oldId/651862/oldModule/Start/page/0

I know a few who cried. OOPs posted twice. Right after the Wende (Change) there were some DDRers who where very proud of what they had done to further society and themselves. They were patriotic in the sense that they saw a future for their efforts. Let us all hope for so much.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Stasi
Three books that might be of interest, the 1st two I have copies of -the 3rd I have just seen mentioned in the "i" newspaper & looked at the author's website.
1) Stasiland (Anna Funder) a very interesting read by a journalist, great interveiws with various people Including Von Schnitzler presenter of the weekly propaganda show "Scwartze Kanal".
2) Stasi (John O. Kohler) a heavy going History of Stasi actvities. Pity no-one proof read this it's filled with typos
3) Secret Images of the Stasi Archive (Simon Menner) A collection of photos from the Stasi Archives, covering a variety of subjects including Stasi disguise courses AND small animals??? (What did the Hamster do?)

Re Stasi - Pt2
Another book that is worth reading:-
The File (Timothy Garton-Ash) The Author's journey through East Germany tracking down the the people who contributed information to his file and interveiewing them as to why they spied and/or handled his file in the security service!

I thought 'Stasiland' by Anna Funder is a great read. It tells numerous stories of everyday people and their experiences with the Stasi. 'The File' by Timothy Garton Ash was okay, but nowhere near as good in my opinion. 'The Lives Of Other's' and 'The Tunnel' (Der Tunnel) are two films that really show how the Stasi operated.
