Yeah. I really wanted an Unicum bottle, but they are a lot harder to come by in Upstate NY than Jager!
I bet not. Try the local Intershop, oops, how about the Duty Free at the Airport? It would look good too.|

Trabant601: My Dad literally met us at a food truck while he was returning from picking up the new one, and we were headed out to brimfield antique show. So I poked my head in the trailer, and thats it. But this weekend ill take a bunch of pics and post them

Today i pulled the heads off, as it started to make a wierd whop-whop-whop-whop (kind of like an big diesel, getting a bit too much fuel, and a big turbo) when accelerating. 5 km later lost some power, but came back. it smelled burnt when i got home and the cylinders were quite messy down the sides.
Head bolts were only a bit more than hand tight. those apparantly needs to be aftertightened after a few 100 km. this set of gasket lasted about 5000km before going out...
This was a good reason to get a new chairperson cylinder,(wich sarted to leak again, thoug not that long ago i rebuild it)
some new rubber guides for the door windows. (those are flapping about, and wont close proberbly at speed)
also got some new rear light glass for a fellow trabi driver in the car club. his are so dull the light nearly cant get out.

I found a reproduction DDR flag on Ebay for about $7.00 with free shipping here in the United States.

Nord Locks! These are the sh!t. I had numerous issues with nuts loosening on the exhaust manifold, turbocharger, downpipe on my turbo systems. I would have to retorque the nuts every 500 miles, until I found these things. If I ever have to replace the head gaskets on my Trabant, I'll throw some these under the nuts/bolts.

Last week: Got the new condenser/points on the car. Originally ordered a new breaker plate, but the design on that one was a little off, and it was really far advanced. I got it retarded back a little bit at a time, and it's closer, but now I've got to adjust the points because the breaker won't adjust any further.
This weekend: replaced the fuel shut-off with a new one. The straw had broken off on my old one, so all the gunk had gone through the engine, and I had no reserve. Found out in the process I had no fuel screens whatsoever, just the bowl on the outlet, so it's good I did this.
The car is running great. Very happy with the performance. When I get the timing nailed down a little bit closer, it'll be in really good shape.

Last time I messed with the points before I finally got my electronic ignition working, I experimented by adjusting the points gap with the engine running while holding a timing light. I found I could manipulate the ignition timing by adjusting the gap. I got both cylinders spot at TDC.
The engine actually ran fine but I don't know what the effect of running the points gap at whatever I ended up with.

about 3 weeks and 1 day later...

Hi everyone.
I have owned my Trabi now for aprox 1,5 month, and i love it more and more every day that passes.
Ive driven it 2000km since I got it
Ive recived a few packages from Trabantwelt and Ebay.de the last few weeks and done some few changes to the car.
-new side mirrors
-new badge on the front
-new fan-belt
-painted some big and some smaller scratches all over the body.
-new window packings. (it no longer leaks!)
-installed the little light inside the cabin)
-installed a new rear light housing.
-installed new hinges for the backlid
-installed the tube that goes from the grill to the "cabin", and installed some clamps on the tube-ends. (now the "air-condition" only delivers air and not engine noise and fumes.
-installed a original "DDR" sign on the back. (I regret that i didnt install it alittle twisted :p )
-Gave the trabant a proper wash and polish today (First time I ever polished a car.)
Future projects for the car.
-replace the door packings.
-overhaul the brakes (already bought new brake shoes ++ from Trabantwelt.)
-installed the original petrol-valve. (a motorcycle valve from a moped is installed right now.)
-replace the windscreenwasher-engine. (its dead)
-Install the sensor that sends a signal to the "economizer" (it just lays in the trunk, and I believe its broken)
-replace gear-fluids and add some Omega 917 to hopefully eliminate a minor leak.
-Install a old stereo in the car. (vintage look is important!)
-Buy some new wheels or real nice hubcaps. Anyone here have experience with "full moon hub caps"?
Anyways. My freshly polished Trabant!
