I drove up to a All-German car meet up in Newcastle north of Sydney (340km round trip) the weekend before last, and the car did very well except for the wheel shakes under acceleration as a result of the wrong grease in the CV hinge joints. I thought I was going to be a shoe in for the unique vehicle award... but got beaten by a Gogo mobile.... (the owner was part of the club that ran the event) :'(

So I replaced the horrible grease in my CV hinge joints last week with proper Molly/Graphite CV grease (Molykote BR2 Plus) , it has reduced the acceleration shakes by a lot... just waiting on my second canister to arrive so I can fill them to their correct 0.3kg per joint requirements... p.s. driving a trabant in 35deg C heat with no aircon is a challenge....

@michiel76 love the knurling on your metal fuel bowl... I don't think my aluminium bowl has any knurling or might have some small line at the bottom, either way its a pain in the ass to get off without removing the whole tank from the car... I wish I still had access to my friends lathe and knurling tools to fix it.

I think I got mine from TrabantWelt, it works well... its just that there is not enough room to get a proper grip on the smooth cylindrical surface... once the tank is out enough to get a full hand grip around it, its fine...

Down off the winter axle stands today. Leaky cork petcock seals replaced with Viton versions, improvised throttle spring replaced, indicators changed back to proper orange ones.

Oh yeah, I also rescued my air filter housing from the scrap metal pile where my friend had placed it by mistake. I'm currently using a cone filter so he'd assumed I wanted the old one going out. I can't be too harsh on him though 'cause he lets me use his garage for free.

All it needs now is a wash before it gets used as a wedding car in a couple of weeks!

I mounted a new front shoulders with a ball joint. After a test drive for Trabant meeting I must say that they are fantastic!

Got it all done, so it is ready for summer. smiling smiley it is currently waiting in the shipping container. also bought a load of NOS spare parts. (complete taillamp, various swiches and relays, piston rings, engine mounts, parts for old style drrive shafts, and a lower suspension wishbone. along with some other bits)

The k-jetronic injection in the Audi 80 finally gave up. sad smiley it wont idle anymore, but runs fine with throttle... Put it up for sale as a non-runner, and found a 1996 audi a6 avant 2,6 v6 quattro instead. grinning smiley
Two owners, 300.000 km, climate control, cruise control, heated seats, electric windows and so on. interior looks like new, but has a few rust bubbles on the tailgate and bonnet. smiling smiley

At some point someone took a keyhole saw and did quite a hack job on the dash to fit an oversized 90s Blaupunkt radio. Though it did provide convenient access to the wiring, it also gave Sputnik a real dodgy look. The custom copper sheet and original radio delete plate (thank you, ebay.de) really make a more refined look for the interior in my opinion. As the dash was already pretty well cut up, I didn't feel too bad about drilling the rivet holes. Also came up with a decidedly overbuilt US sized license plate bracket system so as to not need any new holes drilled in the car's exterior. Next project: Minor rust abatement!

Nothing to do really, a wee bit of decorating, (new curtains and seat covers). Very solid underneath and no damage to the fibreglass body. Not bad for a 1985 model!

Cheers all, hope a good weekend was had in the Trabiverse.

For what it's worth, I noticed your clock face is clouded up. Veglia clocks on Fiats are bad about clouding up due to the type of plastic used. I don't know why the other gauges don't cloud up. The typically fog up on humid mornings!

You can buy a new lenses for $15 for Veglia clocks but a dirt cheap repair is to cut one down from a CD Jewel case which I have done before.
