“Quadricycle”
Replica of Henry Ford's first car, actually built in 1894-5 and first driven in 1896. Mine was built from blueprints and drawings taken from the original Quadricycle that's in the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan. The engine is identical to the original except for the pistons, which are stock Honda 200. It has a 2.5 inch bore and a 6 inch stroke, making pretty close to 1 liter of displacement. There is no carburetor. Instead there's a drip valve that simply drips fuel into the intake manifold. The ignition is by a single wound coil and what is called a "make and break" system. The spark plugs are also made from scratch, and I tried several designs before I found a way to keep the insulators from burning up. It does around 15 MPH, has a leather belt transmission, and a bell to warn the horses to get out of the way.
