Rick Eggers's 1908 Harley-Davidson Pre-War
|
Replica of a 1908 Harley racer with a battery ignition, atmospheric intake valve, v-twin that's all built from scratch. It was the 3rd motor I built and the first v-twin. The bore is 3 inches and the stroke is 2.75, making about 39 cubic inches. The 4th picture is the short stroke crankshaft I made last winter. I used a carb from a Tecumseh snow blower engine. The bike is belt driven, like most Harleys except it's a leather belt. The pedals are used to start the engine, and to get rolling before engaging the belt.
