1935 Miller-Ford V-8 Indy car. The Stevenson formula would not fit with the body style of this car, so I had to design my own. There are several departures from the norm, including under slung frame, torsion bar front suspension, rack and pinion steering, and pin-drive rear hubs with knock-off spinners. The body is long, enabling the seat to be laid back for a reclined driving position and still have plenty of leg room.

Hello, Rick! The unusual construction of the front end, but the design is realised in an excellent way. I am sure that a body should be done to be cute and looks as original! Regards, Zoran

One of the best looking pre-war Indy cars deserves a great Cycle Kart homage like this!

Thanks, Charles and Zoran. Zoran, the construction of the front end started as looking for a way to keep the suspension components inside the bodywork, and enable me to put the "wings" on the outer portion of the axles like the real Millers had. That's how I came up with the torsion bars.

Very cool! I lke the fairings over the exposed suspension components, but especially the underslung design! It really does add to the 'fast' part of he whole picture-By Jove! I think you've got it Chappy!! Gives me some ideas for my own. As others have posted their works-in-progess, wonder if you'd mind sharing the date references you might have posted the frame build on? ( I'm inspired!) Thanks Rick.

Thanks, Mike. Check out my thread in the Cyclekart Tech forum "My 1935 Miller-Ford IndyCar build". It goes back to September of last year. Also, I have a journal with more pictures and descriptions. Look for that too. If you have specific questions, you can PM me. Good luck with your build!

Hi Rick ! I've Commented before, but seeing your car all painted up is special ! I'm in a stall mode for the time being, but hope to begin a similar direction as you've laid out. Ya did a great thing there Pilgrim ! ( Thanks to the Cycle Kart crew for adding me to the list so I could see this all done ! )

Hi Rick, I'm new to the club so I mostly just observe so far, but I've got to say that your build sure puts the bar damned high for the rest of us. Have you taken it out and put it through it's paces like in an empty parking lot with cones etc. How does the torsion bar susp. work? How much was the final weight? Also I was wondering if you didn't build it to the Stevenson formula, did you leave room for a larger engine in the future or are you planning any engine upgrades for the predator hemi engine? I'm just getting the parts together for my first cyclekart and I'm already violating the Stevenson formula, actually I didn't know anything about the formula, I just ran across 18" wheels for free (my favorite price) so I ordered tires, tubes and went and bought a predator engine from Harbor Freight. Next objective is to figure out the best torque convertor. Again, I love your car and may borrow some of your ideas. Richard Miller

Thanks, Richard. I've driven it around the neighborhood. One thing I didn't like was the stiffness of the front suspension, so I made a couple new torsion bars of smaller diameter. That took care of that. I stayed with the "formula" as far as the wheelbase, track and engine, which is a Predator hem I with stage one upgrades. Final weight will be determined this week when I get the second scale I ordered. Good luck on your build, and you can borrow any ideas you want.

The car looked great at Tieton. It runs and sounds pretty good too.

I came across the "Torsion Bar Spring Rate Calculator" that you might find helpful. Looks like I will have to email it to you.
