“Sargette”
Sargette...
The first cyclekart built by Team Salvage I and the 4th actual cyclekart in Utah. The only 3 others were owned by Dion Laney and David Baird.
Her first wheels were the original wheels used by David on Goliath before she turned into much more.
Originally, the car failed immensely when dipping our toes into the cyclekart realm. It was mocked by quite a few folks.
Kelly still doesn't call it a cyclekart but some seem to do just that.
Using a slight military costume, the car is made of scraps. The main body is actually a canoe yet has no actual inspiration.
Sporting GN roots, it's gone through many changes but still stands as the strongest car in the Salvage One fleet. It's been rolled, was the first cyclekart on the salt flats and surrounding areas in history, driven in the rain, mud, snow.. and even put in the air a few times.
The car was built in a modular fashion. The rear end, can come entirely off with 4 bolts as the drive train sits in a U-shaped cassette of sorts. The inner cockpit is a framework that can drop from the underside of the car with 8 bolts... as is the front end.
The car has been disassembled and reassembled 8 times with many misc modifications.
In late 2021, it took on a new role and the car is now heading down it's next journey where she'll hit the salt flats with some modifications to become the fastest cyclekart on this planet using spec gear.
The new body attachments, have similarities to the A10 Warthog, and the fins are an exact match to the dimensions used on the real craft. Why? Because the A-10's protected me in the Iraq war.
The new wheels, a franken-wheel of sorts consisting of aluminum KX 80 rims, and go kart hubs making a 9 LB wheel. There are no adapters as the key is in the go kart hub.
Inner framework changed from steel to aluminum.
Car weight: 180 lbs. Driver weight: 160.
What you're looking at is an "Aero-kart" A cyclekart with reference to a famous plane, and built for one thing. Outright speed on a 1 mile course.
It has 2 engines. One spec cyclekart engine, and one modified stage 3 engine using a clutch and no Tav. Proposed top speed, but not tested, 80 Mph.
It will not appear in any televised Salt flats event. The modifications necessary to run are simply ludicrous, would cost just too much, and ruins the look of it.
Remember, an element of Danger is in all cyclekarting.
We'll do this as all real cyclekarters do, and do it alone with friends.
We're not looking for popularity, we're looking to drive.
