I was able to finally rewire the DDR Fog lights I got from Chris in North Carolina over a year ago. I then mounted them and got the switch installed, still need to finish grounding them and running the power wire cleanly, but I took a picture of my newly installed fog lights! (See Below)

Also in anticipation of John Short getting my aftermarket ground plate working again (Thank you John Short) and my engine back, I decided to wash and wax my Trabi. I will get the gear box drained and fluid changed here soon and clean the interior in the next week or so! I can't wait to get it back on the road again.

Anyway, below is the pictures of a clean and freshly waxed Trabi with new fog lights (Ignore my messy garage please smiling smiley ) It's my MG's fault.

Haha well to be honest Keri, normally it is a lot worst than that. I have been "trying" the organize it a little more because I get tired of hunting for things I can't remember where I set them smiling smiley

So John Short finished and shipped back my engine, so special thanks to him. John shipped it out on Friday via Greyhound and it arrived yesterday so I ran down to get it on my lunch.

I was able to get it installed last night and just have the rear motor/transmission mount to secure. After that I need to hook up the ignition and then just wait for the carb to get here (it was shipped separately via USPS).

Once I get the carb hooked up I should be good to go. I know John bench tested and tidied up a couple things and fine tuned the carb, so it should be pretty much plug and play.

Hopefully in a couple days I'll be driving it.

So the engine and transmission and everything are in, secured and ready to go, just waiting on USPS to get my carb here. They post office is starting to be a real problem here. The last 3 packages I've had come through them have been extremely delayed, damaged or both. Nevertheless, hopefully it will arrive soon.

In the meantime, I decided I need a radio so I found an OLD MGB radio out of a late 60's early 70's. It is AM/FM, and looks like it goes nicely with the car. Here are a couple pics of it on and off.

HMMM...YELLOW TRABI with head lights....I LIKE....!!!

for answering the question, what have I done to my Trabi lately: I've dragged it around the US for 3877 miles, drove on Route 66, beat up some Corvettes in an autocross, visited the NASCAR museum, wrote "26HP" on the rear window to piss off the many Corvette and other hot rod owners... and participated in a world record attempt of the most cars burning tires at the same time at once challenge on the Zmax speedway in Charlotte NC. Went to Graceland in Memphis, and drove thru New Orleans WITH A TRABANT! I think the little Trabi now deserves a little garage time....

So you drove it that far, and trailed it home?

I have done absolutely nothing to my trabi (other than starting it when i needed the sound of a good engine) but i am going to order side blinkers today, and get them mounted when they are here. smiling smiley

I've actually trailered it all the way. It's a real race car, not made for road trips. Hard seats, very hard suspension and off course no AC.... So the little Trabi was a star and the 71 Buick was our mual with AC and soft seats....

Think about it! 3877 miles is 7100km in 40-45 Celsius and 97% humidity...

The sound of a Trabi engine does brings a smile on my face!

I built a mechanism to hold nice deck umbrellas to the jack points for when we go for a picnic in the Trabant. It is cool looking. Made them for both sides but have only used it on one side so far. Pictures to come later.

I will have to set it up tomorrow and take some pics. I didnt take any yet. Nice weather tomorrow means I would set it up then anyway. Ironically, we will be at the park where the VW people told me I couln't come in with a Trabant.

No, you missed it in a different thread. I went to a VW thing in Portage once and they said Trabants were not allowed, only VW. I will tell you some time or you can find it in the forum it is told about. sorry. I am just going to the park.

The wooden piece is to drive into the ground with the pole of the umbrella to keep it from moving much. I deployed one side here for these pictures. In the first picture you can see the components attached to the jack point of one side and the other pieces just on that tray. The tube is PVC.

Naturally, one could use the front jack points but then you can't open that door.
